Mattie Hubbard Jones (1878-1975) was the chair of the Red Cross Auxillary and an outspoken advocate for civil rights. Jones was also the founder and director of the Pleasant Hill playground that bears her name. The playground was the center for many community events, festivals, and field days with organized sporting events. The playground was known for its competitive tennis program.
